A 17-year-old student was allegedly killed with iron rods and a knife by two to three youths here following a dispute over social media reels, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 11 pm on Tuesday in Prem Nagar, under Udhyog Nagar police station limits. The victim was returning from a wedding when he was intercepted.
The deceased has been identified as Shubham Sain, a Class 11 student and a resident of Jaga Basti in Prem Nagar. According to the police, Sain sustained fatal injuries during the attack near Choth Mata temple. He was rushed to New Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Udhyog Nagar Circle Inspector Jitendra Singh said Sain suffered deep wounds to the stomach and collapsed at the spot due to heavy bleeding.
Following a complaint by the family, the police have registered a murder case against two accused, identified as Vishal and Raj Baccha. Both suspects fled the spot after the incident remain at large, the circle inspector said.
Preliminary inquiry suggests that a long-standing rivalry between the deceased and the accused regarding social media content. Sain used to create and upload video reels on social media platforms, which is believed to be the trigger for the dispute, Singh said.
“A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the dispute,” Singh said. The body was handed over to family members after the post-mortem examination on Wednesday morning.
