24 Kangra schools get CBSE affiliation, 13 more in pipeline: Kamlesh Kumari

In a major step towards modernising education, 24 government schools in Kangra district have received affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The admission process in these schools will begin from April 1 and will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Admissions will be offered from Bal Vatika (pre-primary) to Class 12, with plans to create two or more sections, each accommodating around 45 students.

The development comes after the Himachal Pradesh government approved the affiliation of 151 government schools across the state with CBSE. The new curriculum will be introduced from the upcoming academic session to enhance the quality of education. Deputy Director of Higher Education, Kangra, Kamlesh Kumari said that a total of 37 schools in the district are being converted to CBSE. Of these, 24 have already received affiliation, while the remaining are in the process. She added that the admission process will follow guidelines similar to those of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.

She further stated that while admissions will primarily be on a first-come, first-served basis, a test may be conducted if the number of applicants exceeds the available seats.

Officials said that CBSE affiliation is being granted only to schools that meet the required standards, including proper classrooms, laboratories, playgrounds, fire safety systems and other essential infrastructure. Schools fulfilling these criteria are being granted affiliation in a phased manner.
