Torrent Group has acquired a 67% majority stake in IPL franchise Gujarat Titans through a deal with Irelia Company Pte Ltd, the company said on Wednesday. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Torrent Investments Private Limited (TIPL), a holding company of Torrent Group, finalized the acquisition, while Irelia, controlled by CVC-managed funds, will retain a 33% minority stake. Gujarat Titans, one of the youngest and most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), won the title in their debut season in 2022.
Sharing the news on X, formerly Twitter, Torrent Group wrote, “Two Titans of Gujarat take guard for a new innings, setting the stage for a ⚡POWERPLAY like no other!”
The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The partnership marks a significant milestone for India’s sports industry, promising fresh opportunities for growth and innovation.
