The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has tightened its grip on Haryana politics, winning nine out of ten municipal elections on Wednesday, five months after forming the state government for a historic third term.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini credited the victory to the party’s grassroots efforts and the support of the state’s 2.8 crore residents. “A triple-engine government has been formed in Haryana today, thanks to the hard work of BJP workers and the blessings of the people,” he said.
Saini highlighted that the elections were conducted smoothly and expressed gratitude towards the State Election Commission and officials involved in the process. “On behalf of the government and the people, I thank all those who contributed to ensuring peaceful local body elections,” he stated during the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
Despite the overwhelming win, the BJP faced a setback in the Manesar mayoral race, where its candidate, Sunder Lal, was defeated by Inderjeet Yadav, an independent candidate with close ties to Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
