The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a fresh petition contesting the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, emphasizing that it would not entertain multiple proceedings on the same issue. A bench, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, expressed frustration, noting, “This is the same plea. Stop filing petitions and applications,” The Hindustan Times reported.
The court is already considering several petitions challenging the Act’s constitutional validity. Critics argue that the Act violates the principles of secularism and the rule of law enshrined in India’s Constitution. Among the petitioners are Maharaja Kumari Krishna Priya, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, former MP Chintamani Malviya, retired army officer Anil Kabotra, and other religious leaders, according to Business Standard.
