Iran has launched a series of missile strikes on American-run military bases in Qatar and Iraq, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported on Monday late night dramatically escalating regional tensions.

Codenamed Herald of Victory, the operation targeted the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar — a key facility hosting US and coalition forces — and another undisclosed base in Iraq. Iran’s Armed Forces confirmed the strikes, claiming direct hits on both locations.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has not disclosed the exact number of missiles launched, but said the assault was a response to what it called “aggressions” by US forces in the region.

Qatar’s foreign ministry reacted sharply, calling the attack a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the UN Charter”. In a statement, the Qatari government said it “reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression”.

Indian nationals in Qatar were urged to exercise caution. The Indian Embassy in Doha issued an advisory asking citizens to stay indoors and remain vigilant. “In view of the ongoing situation, Indian community in Qatar is urged to be cautious and remain indoors,” the advisory read.

The full extent of casualties or damage from the strikes is still being assessed. There has been no immediate response from US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees operations at Al-Udeid.

The Al-Udeid base, located southwest of Doha, is one of the largest US military facilities in the Middle East and plays a critical role in air operations across the region.
