Amritsar/ Chandigarh, June 30
In one of the biggest anti-narcotics crackdowns this year, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Rajasthan Police, has busted an international drug trafficking syndicate operated by a Pakistan-based smuggler and a Canada-based handler. The Police have recovered 60.302 kilograms of heroin near the India-Pakistan international border in Barmer of Rajasthan. The consignment is believed to have been routed through cross-border channels with the assistance of Pakistani national Tanveer Shah and Canadian-based Joban Kaler, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said in his post on X, previously known as Twitter.
Sharing details, he said that a total of nine key individuals, including operatives and hawala financiers, have been arrested during coordinated raids across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. The Punjab Police, in a statement, reaffirmed its commitment to fighting narco-terrorism and dismantling international drug supply chains. The force said this operation was part of the ongoing campaign, Yudh Nashian De Virudh (War Against Drugs), aimed at safeguarding Punjab’s youth and future, he further said. The Police say investigations are ongoing and further arrests are likely.
