New Delhi, August 14
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has marked Partition Horrors Remembrance Day by recalling the suffering and displacement faced by millions during one of the most painful periods in India’s history. In a message on X, formerly Twitter, he described the anniversary as a day to honour the courage of those who endured “unimaginable loss” and yet rebuilt their lives. Modi said many survivors went on to achieve “remarkable milestones” despite the trauma of the 1947 partition. He added that the occasion also served as a reminder of the need to strengthen harmony and unity — values he said continued to bind the nation together.
