Hindu pilgrims turned back by Pakistani officials at Wagah border

Pakistani immigration authorities turned back a group of Hindu pilgrims who had joined a Sikh delegation visiting Pakistan to mark the Parkash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Affected families from Delhi, Lucknow and Nawanshahr said thhat they had obtained visas through the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to visit Sikh shrines in Pakistan. However, they alleged that Pakistani officials at the Wagah border insulted and mistreated them before denying entry.

Speaking after their return at the Attari border, pilgrims Ganga Ram and Amar Chand said officials questioned their presence in a Sikh group, reportedly saying, “You are Hindus — why are you going to Sikh gurdwaras? Go to your temples.”

The pilgrims said they were deeply hurt by the treatment, adding that Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings are revered not only by Sikhs but also by many Hindus who follow his path.

Members of 14 families, some originally born in Pakistan and now settled in Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area, said they had hoped to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at his birthplace, Nankana Sahib. Instead, they were forced to return to India in tears.
