Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday said that in a major breakthrough, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with SAS Nagar Police, foiled a gangster plot and arrested two operatives after a brief exchange of fire near Ghaghar Bridge on the Ambala–Dera Bassi highway. The two men, identified as Sharanjit Singh and Aman Kumar, were found to be linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon, an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police said the suspects opened fire while attempting to escape and were injured in retaliatory firing by the security team.
The preliminary investigations indicate that the duo was involved in a recent shootout in Rajpura and had been directed by Goldy Dhillon to target a businessman in Punjab. The police recovered two .32 calibre pistols and 10 live cartridges from the accused. Both have been admitted to hospital under police custody. Punjab DGP praised the swift coordination between the AGTF and local police, reiterating that Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling gangster networks and maintaining peace and security in the state.
