Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the deaths of nine people after a bus overturned in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district in the early hours of Friday. The Police said nine persons were killed while 22 injured when the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch. In a statement on X, Modi said he was “pained” by the loss of lives and extended his sympathies to the families affected. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Prime Minister’s Office said an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund would be given to the next of kin of each victim, while those injured would receive ₹50,000. Officials said an investigation is under way and further details about the cause of the crash are awaited.
