The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday that the Indian government has taken up the matter of two Swaroops of Guru Granth Sahib with Qatar authorities. The Indian Embassy in Doha has kept the Sikh community informed of developments regarding this sensitive issue. “One Swaroop of the Holy Book has been returned, and the Qatar authorities assured that the other Swaroop is being treated with the utmost respect. We are closely following the matter and hope for a swift resolution,” MEA Official Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said.
“We are aware of reports about the Guru Granth Sahib being seized by Qatari authorities and the Sikh community’s call for their release. The government has already addressed the matter with Qatar, and our Embassy has kept the Sikh community in Doha updated,” said MEA Official Spokesperson.
Sharing details on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Jaiswal explained that the two Swaroops were taken by Qatari authorities from individuals charged with running a religious establishment without government approval. The Indian Embassy has provided all possible assistance within the scope of local laws.
