Chandigarh, August 31
In a major development, the Election Commission has rescheduled the Haryana assembly elections and deferred the polling date from October 1 to October 5. The election results for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana will be announced on October 8. However, there has been no change in the polling date for the third phase of the Jammu and Kashmir elections, which will remain on October 1.
This decision was made after the Election Commission received representations from various national and state political parties and the All India Bishnoi Mahasabha. These groups expressed concern that a significant portion of the Bishnoi community in Haryana would be traveling to Rajasthan for the centuries-old Asoj Amavasya festival, potentially reducing voter turnout. The Election Commission, after considering these representations, decided to adjust the polling date for Haryana to ensure broader voter participation.
