Shimla, April 10
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday stepped up its campaign against the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh by holding a protest outside the party headquarter, Deep Kamal, in the Chakkar area of Shimla. The protest was organised by BJP Shimla Rural as part of the party’s statewide campaign against the Congress government over its performance during the last three and a half years.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Shimla district BJP president Keshav Chauhan alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil the promises it made before coming to power. He claimed that the government had not delivered on key assurances, such as providing Rs 1,500 per month to women, 300 units of free electricity, and 5 lakh jobs.
Chauhan said the state government was continuously increasing the financial burden on the public while the state’s debt was also rising. He alleged that the government had taken loans worth around Rs 40,000 crore over the last three and a half years, worsening the economic condition of Himachal Pradesh.
He also claimed that differences within the government were becoming visible through contradictory statements made by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. According to Chauhan, while one side was speaking about self-reliance, the other was talking about salary cuts.
The BJP leader said the party would continue its protests across the state until the Congress government was removed from power. He expressed confidence that the BJP would perform strongly in Shimla district in the 2027 Assembly elections and claimed that Congress would struggle to reach double digits in the state.
