Dehradun, April 13
Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has been booked for allegedly using indecent and offensive language during a college event in Dehradun, police said on Monday, following a complaint by a student representative and videos that surfaced on social media.
Dehradun Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said the case was registered on Sunday based on a complaint filed by Pranchal Nauni of the Satyam Shivam student organization at DAV College. The complaint concerns an event held by the students’ union on Saturday.
According to the complaint, Sharma made objectionable remarks from the stage, which hurt the sentiments of students and members of the public present at the venue. Police said a case has been registered under Sections 296, 352, 79, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation has been initiated.
Officials said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had attended the event but left before the alleged incident occurred. BJP MLA Umesh Sharma Kau was present at the venue at the time. Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
