New Delhi, September 21
Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi was sworn in as Delhi’s youngest Chief Minister on Saturday during a ceremony at Raj Niwas. Along with her, five newly appointed ministers — Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Kailash Gahlot, and Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat — also took the oath of office, joining the Delhi Cabinet. She was named Delhi CM after the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, who led the state for nearly a decade. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were also present on the occasion.
On September 17, after being named as Kejriwal’s successor, Atishi expressed both gratitude and sorrow. “I am happy that Arvind Kejriwal has shown so much trust in me, but more than that, I am sad because my elder brother Arvind Kejriwal is resigning today. On behalf of all AAP MLAs and the two crore people of Delhi, I want to say that Delhi has only one Chief Minister, and his name is Arvind Kejriwal,” she remarked.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Atishi had thanked Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for giving her the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister. “This is possible only in AAP, under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, that a first-time politician can become the Chief Minister of a state,” she said.
