Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred the “Grand Commander of the Order of Niger” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a ceremony at the State House, recognizing his statesmanship and efforts to strengthen India-Nigeria ties.
The award citation highlighted Modi’s transformative leadership, which has positioned India as a global powerhouse while promoting unity, peace, and shared prosperity.
Accepting the honor, Modi dedicated it to the people of India and the enduring friendship between the two nations. He described the recognition as a testament to the Strategic Partnership between India and Nigeria and their shared commitment to advancing the aspirations of the Global South.
Modi is the first foreign leader to receive this honor since 1969, underscoring the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries.
