1,430 TB cases in Kullu, govt to launch drive to eliminate disease

Himachal Pradesh health officials have decided to launch a 100-day tuberculosis awareness and screening campaign in Kullu district, where 1,430 TB cases have been reported, authorities said on World Tuberculosis Day. The special drive is being carried out under the TB Free Campaign and coincides with the launch of TB Mukt Abhiyan 2.0 in the district.

A programme to mark World Tuberculosis Day was organised by the Health Department at the Regional Hospital in Dhalpur, Kullu district headquarters, where nursing students also held an awareness rally. The rally was flagged off by Chief Medical Officer Dr Ranjit Thakur.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Thakur said the highest number of TB patients in Kullu district had been recorded in the Zari and Naggar health blocks.

He said Kullu had reported 1,554 TB cases in 2024, while the number declined to 1,430 in 2025.

Dr Thakur added that from January 2026 to 23 March 2026, the Health Department had identified 333 new TB patients during screening in the district.

Under the 100-day campaign, health teams will conduct screening across different health blocks in Kullu district to detect new cases and strengthen awareness efforts.

Officials said Rs 63.43 lakh had been spent in Kullu district under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana to provide nutritional support to TB patients.

The Health Department said intensified screening and outreach efforts would continue as part of its campaign to make the district TB-free.
