Ajay Singhal takes charge as Haryana DGP

Haryana’s newly appointed Director General of Police, Ajay Singhal, formally assumed charge of his office on Thursday, with his predecessor O. P. Singh present on the occasion. Addressing a press conference in Panchkula, Singhal reflected on the changes in policing over the past three decades. He said that when he joined the service in 1992, the nature of crime and policing was very different, but the spread of mobile phones and the internet had since transformed both criminal methods and law enforcement.
“Criminals became smarter, and we also modernised ourselves,” he said, adding that the Haryana Police had consistently responded to challenges ranging from terrorism to everyday crime and law-and-order situations with determination. Singhal also referred to the recent visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, noting that he had highlighted the important role played by the Haryana Police in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
