Veteran Indian actor Annu Kapoor has voiced strong opposition to Pakistani actors working in Bollywood, following reports that a film featuring singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been banned in India due to the casting of a Pakistani actress.
Speaking at Chandigarh Presss Club , Kapoor said, “Pakistan-based actors should not be allowed to work in Indian films. We have enough talent here. Why should we promote those from a country that stands against us?”
The remarks come amid controversy surrounding a recent Dosanjh-starrer which has reportedly faced restrictions in India because of the involvement of a Pakistani female lead.
Kapoor, known for films like Vicky Donor and Mr. India, added, “There is no personal hate, but this is about national sentiment. We cannot afford to mix art with those who are aligned with countries that support anti-India activity.”
This is not the first time Bollywood’s ties with Pakistani artists have sparked outrage. After the 2016 Uri attack, several Pakistani performers were banned from working in India, with industry associations issuing informal directives.
Diljit Dosanjh has not commented publicly on the matter.
