The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to 86-year-old spiritual leader Asaram Bapu in a 2013 rape case on medical grounds, media reports said on Tuesday. The court allowed bail till March 31, with the condition that Asaram will not meet his followers upon release. Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment in February 2023 by a Gandhinagar Sessions Court for raping a woman disciple between 2001 and 2006. The victim, from Surat, was living at Asaram’s ashram in Motera, near Ahmedabad, at the time of the assaults.
