Voter turnout in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections was recorded at around 60.13% till 5 pm on Thursday, marking a notable rise from the 56.93% recorded in 2020. Polling took place across 121 constituencies in 18 districts amid tight security. The first phase is being seen as crucial in the high-stakes battle for control of the state.
Among the key candidates who cast their votes early in the day were Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and Union Minister Chirag Paswan. Officials said the voting process remained largely peaceful, with only minor technical issues reported in a few booths.
The second phase of polling, covering the remaining 122 Assembly constituencies, is scheduled for November 11.
