Chandigarh, January 17
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has questioned the credibility of a forensic investigation conducted by the Punjab Police after the Delhi Legislative Assembly ruled out any tampering in a video involving Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.
In his post on X on Saturday, Jakhar said a forensic examination ordered by the Delhi Assembly had clearly established that the video was authentic and had not been altered. He cited the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly as stating that no manipulation was found in the footage. Jakhar argued that these findings cast serious doubt on the earlier forensic claims made by the Punjab Police, which had asserted that the video had been tampered with. He said the conflicting conclusions raised questions about the integrity and intent of the Punjab Police investigation. The BJP leader also criticised the Punjab government’s handling of what he described as an emotionally sensitive issue, accusing it of attempting to shield its party leadership. He said such actions were “highly condemnable” and undermined public trust in institutions. On Friday, a spokesperson for the Jalandhar police said that Atishi video shared by a BJP leader on social media platform X had been examined by the Forensic Science Laboratory in Mohali and was found to have been tampered with. The spokesperson also claimed that Atishi did not use the word “guru”, as alleged by opposition leaders.
