CHANDIGARH, OCTOBER 26
The Punjab government has suspended six cops , including two deputy superintendents of police, over an unauthorised interview conducted with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was in jail custody. The suspended officers include DSPs Gursher Singh and Sammer Vaneet, along with sub-inspectors Reena, Jagatpal Jangu, Shaganjit Singh, and head constable Om Parkash.
According to an order issued by Punjab Home Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, the suspension follows findings from a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Special DGP (Human Rights) Prabodh Kumar, which confirmed that Bishnoi’s interview, aired by a private channel, was conducted via video conference on September 3-4, 2022, while he was in custody at the Kharar Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in connection with the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
The Punjab government cited the sensitivity of the case in its decision to suspend the officers.
