Car bomb blast kills 15 in Syria

At least 15 people including 14 women have been killed in a car bomb explosion in the Syrian city of Manbij, local authorities have confirmed. The blast, which occurred on Monday, targeted a vehicle carrying agricultural workers on the outskirts of Manbij, a city located about 30 km (19 miles) from the Turkish border, according to media reports. Among the dead were 14 women and one man, according to the Syria Civil Defence agency, also known as the White Helmets, the news outlet The Jerusalem reported. In addition to those killed, 15 women were injured, with some of them reported to be in critical condition. Rescue teams warned that the death toll could rise as more information becomes available. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is the second such bombing in Manbij within just three days. The city has been a target for car bombings in the past, as multiple factions fight for control in the region, the news outlet the BBC reported. This attack is considered to be the deadliest bombing in Syria since the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad in December, underscoring the ongoing instability in the country.
