Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused significant disruptions in Himachal Pradesh, culminating in a tragic landslide on the Shimla-Chandigarh highway that claimed one life. Dev Raj Singh perished when his car was buried under debris on the Mehli Shoghi road. Three other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to ESI Hospital in Parwanoo, according to The Hindustan Times.
Adding to the calamity, a cloudburst in Geabong village of Kinnaur led to widespread damage. Apple orchards were devastated, and several houses suffered partial destruction. The relentless rain also disrupted the water supply, compounding the region’s woes, the news outlet report said.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una districts until August 3.
