Chandigarh, January 16
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has called for deeper trade and investment links with Canada, particularly British Columbia, during talks with Premier David Eby in Chandigarh.
Mann described Punjab as a preferred investment destination, citing strengths in agro‑processing, textiles, engineering, IT services and renewable energy. He said the state offered robust infrastructure, a skilled English‑speaking workforce and a single‑window clearance system through Invest Punjab.
The Chief Minister highlighted opportunities for collaboration in sustainable farming, food security, greenhouse technologies and value‑added food processing. He also pointed to potential partnerships in education, healthcare, life sciences, renewable energy, cyber security and agri‑tech.
Mann invited Canadian firms to explore joint ventures in manufacturing and engineering, noting demand for Punjab’s agricultural exports such as wheat, rice and processed foods in Canada. He also urged Canadian universities to consider establishing campuses in Mohali, positioning the city as a hub for education and IT services.
The Chief Minister extended an invitation to Canada to join as Partner Country at the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit in March 2026, promising tailor‑made facilitation for Canadian investors.
Premier Eby thanked Mann for the hospitality and emphasised the strong cultural and diaspora links between Punjab and British Columbia. He said his province was keen to strengthen business ties and explore cooperation in skill development, energy and other sectors.
