Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has welcomed the central government’s decision to permit Sikh Jathas to visit Gurdwara Sahib in Pakistan for the upcoming Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Sandhwan on Saturday said several religious and social organisations had earlier raised objections to the government’s move to restrict the annual pilgrimage. He described the reversal as a “pragmatic approach” that would not only strengthen communal harmony but also foster peace between India and Pakistan. The Speaker added that increased exchanges of this nature could enhance cross-border trade and bring benefits to farmers and the business community.
