New Delhi, August 20
The Delhi Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused who attacked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing at her residence in Civil Lines on Wednesday morning. Officials said the accused, identified as Sakaria Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat, has been arrested and is being questioned.
Eyewitnesses said the man approached CM Rekha Gupta with papers before slapping her, injuring her hand. Investigators said CCTV footage shows the suspect visiting the Chief Minister Gupta’s Shalimar Bagh residence a day earlier, suggesting that the attack may have been premeditated. Videos of her residence were also recovered from his phone. Police sources said the accused was reportedly upset over a Supreme Court ruling ordering the removal of stray dogs from Delhi-NCR.
