NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 24
Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy during his address at the BRICS Outreach session in Kazan today. He said that agreements must be respected, international law upheld, and there must be a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.
Dr. Jaishankar remarked on the shifting global landscape, noting that while the old order changes, the inequities of the past persist. He described BRICS as a significant platform capable of making a real difference in addressing these challenges.
In his address, he outlined five key points for consideration. First, he advocated for strengthening and expanding independent platforms to widen choices and avoid external leverage. Second, he called for reforms in established institutions, particularly the UN Security Council, to address both permanent and non-permanent categories.
He also stressed the need for democratizing the global economy by promoting the creation of more production hubs to build resilient, redundant, and shorter supply chains. In addition, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of improving global infrastructure through enhanced connectivity options that would improve logistics and mitigate risks. Lastly, he encouraged the sharing of experiences and new initiatives that hold common interest among nations.
Additionally, he addressed the situation in the Middle East and West Asia, underscoring the urgent need to effectively manage conflicts and tensions in the region. Dr. Jaishankar concluded that the BRICS meeting and its outreach session serve as a message that the world is ready to rethink longstanding challenges.
