External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has met Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, during his visit to Dhaka. Jaishankar said he handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conveying condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India following the death of former Bangladeshi prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. In a post on X, Jaishankar said he expressed confidence that Ms Zia’s vision and values would continue to guide the development of India–Bangladesh relations. The meeting comes amid ongoing diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Dhaka, underscoring India’s message of solidarity with the people of Bangladesh at a time of national mourning.
