Ease of living must guide all reforms: PM Modi tells NDA MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called on National Democratic Alliance (NDA) members of Parliament to ensure that reforms are implemented across all sectors, saying that existing rules and regulations must make “ease of living” the central priority. Addressing the NDA’s parliamentary gathering, Modi said the country had entered a full-fledged “Reform Express” phase, where changes were being introduced rapidly and with clear intent. The Prime Minister was quoted as saying that the government’s reform agenda was designed to be “citizen-centric”, rather than driven solely by economic or revenue considerations.

 Modi urged MPs to actively relay the real, everyday problems faced by ordinary people so that reforms could reach “every household” and address common hardships. He also stressed the need to end what he described as the culture of lengthy 30–40 page forms and excessive paperwork. Services, he said, should be delivered at the doorstep of citizens, with an end to repeated data submissions across departments.

Modi also reminded MPs that the government had trusted citizens by permitting self-certification for several procedures, a system he said had worked successfully for a decade “without misuse”.
