Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday appealed to people across the state to exercise extreme caution while travelling amid dense fog, saying every life is precious and road safety must be a priority. The appeal came after a major road accident was reported near Gurthari village in Bathinda district earlier in the day. According to initial reports, a Fortuner vehicle collided with a road divider, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a woman police personnel from Gujarat.
Mann said teams from the State Safety Force had reached the spot soon after the incident. He added that the administration had been directed to conduct an immediate investigation and that he was personally monitoring the situation. Dense fog has been affecting visibility across several parts of Punjab, increasing the risk of road accidents, particularly during early morning hours.
The officials have urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, maintain safe speeds and follow traffic advisories until weather conditions improve.
