Farmers to hold talks with Centre on December 7

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Friday said that farmer leaders will hold talks with the central government on December 7, following rising tensions at the Shambhu border. In a press conference, Pandher stated that a group of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on December 8 at 12 noon. He emphasized that they are awaiting tomorrow’s talks and reiterated their desire for a peaceful resolution, saying, “We do not seek confrontation with the government, and we will remain peaceful.”

The farmers are demanding legal guarantees for a minimum support price (MSP) for crops, reigniting tensions from earlier farmer movements. Police have sealed the border on the Ambala side, citing concerns over public peace and agitation.

The farmers have temporarily suspended their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march after Haryana Police used tear gas to disperse the first convoy of 101 farmers, causing injuries. Meanwhile, the Haryana government has imposed internet and bulk SMS restrictions in parts of Ambala district from December 6 to 9, due to the ongoing protests at the Shambhu border.

The internet ban, imposed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, affects 11 villages, including Dangdehri, Lohgarh, and Devi Nagar, and aims to curb misinformation and maintain public order.
