Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday presented the Union Budget 2025, outlining major investments in research, agriculture, and innovation. She announced 10,000 fellowships under the PM Research Fellowship scheme over the next five years for technological research in IITs and IISc. Additionally, ₹20,000 crore will be allocated for a private-sector-driven Research, Development, and Innovation initiative, first introduced in the July Budget.
For farmers, the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan limit was raised from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, benefiting 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers. To boost urea production, the government will set up a 12.7 lakh metric ton capacity plant in Namrup, Assam.
The Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will focus on 100 low-productivity districts, enhancing irrigation, crop diversification, storage, and credit access, benefiting 1.7 crore farmers.
Sitharaman reiterated India’s economic growth trajectory, emphasizing a decade of reforms and a commitment to “Sabka Vikas.”
