India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 8.8 per cent in March 2026, surpassing ₹2 lakh crore, driven by strong tax inflows from both domestic sales and imports, government data revealed on Wednesday.
The gross GST mop-up in March stood at ₹2,07,000 crore, up from ₹1.83 lakh crore in the same month last year. Domestic GST revenues increased by 5.9 per cent to ₹1.46 lakh crore, while collections from imports surged 17.8 per cent to ₹53,861 crore.
Refunds issued during the month also rose 13.8 per cent to ₹22,074 crore. After accounting for refunds, net GST collections were approximately ₹1.78 lakh crore, marking an 8.2 per cent year-on-year growth.
For the full 2025-26 fiscal year (April-March), gross GST revenue recorded an 8.3 per cent increase to over ₹22.27 lakh crore. Net revenues, after adjusting for refunds, grew 7.1 per cent to ₹19.34 lakh crore.
