Chandigarh, April 8
A Haryana resident and former Sarpanch of Bibipur village in Jind district, Sunil Jaglan, has launched the “AI Selfie with Daughter” campaign. It builds on his earlier “Selfie with Daughter” movement that gained global recognition for fighting female foeticide and promoting gender equality. Jaglan, 43, and father of two daughters, Nandini, 14, and Yachika, 12, said the new campaign uses Artificial Intelligence to deepen the emotional bond between parents and daughters. The original movement began in 2015 when he took a selfie with Nandini in Bibipur village and shared it online to raise awareness about female foeticide. What started as a simple social media gesture soon grew into a worldwide movement.
“AI Selfie with Daughter will not only create an emotional bond with daughters but will also generate positive feelings towards girl child education, health, safety and rights,” Jaglan said.
The campaign received widespread acclaim, including recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the initiative and mentioned it on his radio programme Mann Ki Baat. Jaglan said the Prime Minister’s mention helped popularise the campaign globally for the rights of daughters.
The new AI-powered campaign takes the movement further by allowing parents without daughters to use AI image-generation tools to create a virtual daughter and pose for a digital selfie with her. Jaglan said this is not just technology but emotion meeting innovation.
Participants can upload their AI-generated selfies on the campaign website selfiewithdaughter.org, name their virtual daughter, and share entries using the hashtags AISelfieWithDaughter, AISWD, and AIDaughter, along with video reels. The best entries will be recognised on June 9 during a panchayat where every household participates in the campaign.
Jaglan expressed hope the initiative would inspire people across the country to value daughters, support their education and well-being, and oppose harmful practices like female foeticide. He urged parents to join the movement and celebrate the belief that “a daughter lives not just in our homes, but in our hearts.”
