Chandigarh, May 30
The Haryana Civil Secretariat building in Chandigarh was evacuated on Friday afternoon after a bomb threat was received, just eight days after a similar alert disrupted proceedings at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Officials said the nine-storey administrative complex was cleared as a precautionary measure following an alert issued by the Haryana CID. Security agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Chandigarh Police, announced the evacuation and initiated a coordinated search operation.
The high-security premises, which also house the office of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, were swept by bomb disposal units, dog squads, fire services, and emergency medical teams. “People were asked to vacate immediately, and security was tightened across the area,” a senior police officer said. The latest threat comes after a bomb scare at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on May 22, which led to the suspension of court proceedings and a full-scale security sweep. Police said they are investigating any possible links between the two threats.
