Hisar police sub-inspector beaten to death after confronting goons over late-night hooligans

A 57-year-old police sub-inspector was beaten to death with bricks and sticks in Hisar late Thursday night after he tried to stop a group of men from creating a disturbance in his neighbourhood, police said. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm in Dhani Shyamlal’s Gali No. 3, where Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar lived with his family. Kumar, who was posted at the ADGP office and due to retire in January, stepped out of his home after hearing a commotion around 10:30 pm and warned a group of youths against hooliganism and abusive behaviour, officials said.

The men initially dispersed but returned an hour later in a car and on two motorcycles, shouting abuses outside his house. When Ramesh confronted them again, they allegedly attacked him with bricks and sticks, leaving him critically injured. Family members rushed to his aid after hearing the commotion, but the attackers fled, leaving behind their vehicles.

Senior police officers reached the scene soon after the incident. Ramesh was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Police said they have formed multiple teams to identify and arrest the suspects. “Action will be taken based on the family’s statement,” a police spokesperson said. Ramesh Kumar had served in the police department for several decades, with several other family members also employed in law enforcement.
