Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile successfully tested

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday successfully test-fired the intermediate-range Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher. The launch, conducted on  September 24 in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), was carried out under full operational conditions. The Agni-Prime, a next-generation missile with a range of up to 2,000 km, features advanced communication systems, protection mechanisms and independent launch capabilities. Officials said this was the first launch from a specially designed rail-based system, which can move freely across the rail network and allows for rapid deployment with reduced visibility. The missile’s trajectory was tracked by multiple ground stations, with the test meeting all mission objectives. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, SFC and the armed forces, describing the achievement as a milestone that places India among a small group of nations capable of deploying canisterised launch systems from rail networks. Senior DRDO scientists and SFC officers witnessed the test, which follows the earlier induction of the road-mobile version of Agni-P after several successful trials. The DRDO chief praised the teams involved, calling the trial a step towards future rail-based system inductions.
