ISI backed terror module busted in Punjab, one held with grenades: DGP

Punjab Police on Thursday said it has busted a terror module allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, arresting one person and recovering four hand grenades along with illegal arms during a joint operation.

According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the action was carried out jointly by the State Special Operations Cells in Amritsar and Mohali, along with the Counter Intelligence Wing. During the operation, police seized two foreign-made pistols and ammunition in addition to the grenades.

Yadav said preliminary investigation indicates that the arrested accused was working under instructions from handlers based abroad. He added that the accused has links to a terror network suspected of being involved in the recent grenade attack in Chandigarh.

“Initial findings suggest the accused was acting on directions from foreign-based handlers and is linked to the module involved in the Chandigarh grenade attack,” Yadav said in a post on X.

Police have registered a First Information Report at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. Officials said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other members of the module.

The development comes amid heightened security concerns in Punjab following recent incidents involving explosives, with agencies intensifying efforts to track cross-border terror networks and their local operatives.
