At least 22 people were killed and more than 100 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed. A Lebanese medical source warned the death toll could rise as search and rescue operations continued. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) did not comment on the strikes, which were reported to be the deadliest in Beirut’s center since Israel intensified its campaign against Hezbollah last month, according to Israeli media.
Israel based news outlet Israeli Times quoting Lebanese media reported that shortly after nightfall, an apartment in an eight-story building at the border of the Al Nuwairi and Ras el-Nabaa neighborhoods was hit by an Israeli airstrike. Minutes later, another building in the nearby Basta neighborhood was also targeted. The blasts rocked Beirut on Thursday evening as Israel reportedly aimed at a senior Hezbollah figure in a previously untouched part of the city. Meanwhile, Israeli troops continued raiding villages in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets across the border into Israel, escalating the ongoing conflict.
