External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, compared the United Nations to an “old company” that is struggling to keep pace with global changes while still maintaining its position in the global arena. He emphasised the diminishing role of the UN in addressing critical global challenges, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. “The United Nations is like an old company, not entirely keeping up with the market, but occupying the space,” Jaishankar remarked speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave in Delhi on Sunday.
In an engaging discussion with N.K. Singh at the conclave, Jaishankar also touched upon the shifting global order, the need for reformed multilateralism, the ongoing technology race, and the weaponization of trade. He reiterated India’s commitment to overcoming long-standing challenges in infrastructure, manufacturing, and skills development, positioning the country as a reliable global partner.
