External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is expected to visit China mid-month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting, marking the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to China since the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020, the sources revealed. The visit follows recent back-to-back trips by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who were also in China last month for separate SCO meetings.
While no bilateral talks are expected between India and Pakistan during the meet, this will be the first time foreign ministers from both countries will share the same platform since the May terror attack in Pahalgam, which India has blamed on Pakistan-trained militants. Jaishankar is, however, expected to hold bilateral discussions with several key regional players including the host nation China, Central Asian countries, and Russia.
