New Delhi, August 29
Japan has pledged to invest 10 trillion yen in India over the next decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba announced at the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit in Tokyo on Friday. The two leaders hailed the progress of their Special Strategic and Global Partnership and unveiled new initiatives in defence and security, economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Agreements were signed in key sectors including clean energy, critical minerals, digital technology, environment, space, science and technology, cultural exchange and diplomatic training. The leaders also announced a major mobility initiative, under which 500,000 people will be exchanged between the two countries in the next five years. This includes 50,000 skilled professionals from India moving to Japan.
Officials said the investment and agreements highlight growing economic and strategic alignment between New Delhi and Tokyo amid regional and global challenges.
