While campaigning in Haryana ahead of upcoming elections, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of orchestrating his arrest to portray him as a thief. The former Delhi Chief Minister said that that if he were indeed corrupt, he could have embezzled ₹3,000 crore. “Had I been a thief, I could have put ₹3,000 crore in my pocket,” Kejriwal remarked, emphasizing the significant financial implications of his government’s initiatives, including providing free electricity in Delhi, the news outlet The Hindustan Times reported.
He said, “I established quality schools for children from low-income families, which required substantial expenditure. If I were corrupt, I would have taken that money for myself.” Kejriwal further defended his record, saying, “What was my fault? My fault was being the Chief Minister of Delhi for 10 years and creating excellent government schools for underprivileged children. In the past, Delhi faced power cuts lasting 7-8 hours, but now we have round-the-clock electricity. My fault was making electricity free in Delhi and Punjab,” the news outlet said.
He added that no corrupt individual could implement schemes like the free pilgrimage program for the elderly, highlighting his government’s commitment to social welfare.
