The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gang rape in the case involving the rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In its first charge sheet, filed on Monday, the CBI charged Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, for the rape and murder of the doctor in the August 9 incident, according to media reports.
The charge sheet suggests Roy acted alone in committing the crime, which took place while the victim was resting in the hospital’s seminar room. Roy was arrested on August 10 by the Kolkata Police after CCTV footage and a bluetooth device found at the scene linked him to the crime. The CBI continues to investigate allegations of evidence tampering, amid concerns of local police involvement in a potential cover-up.
