New Delhi, March 27
The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth ₹2,500 crore with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL), Force Motors Ltd, and Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd for military procurements aimed at strengthening the Armed Forces. The deal includes ₹1,801.34 crore for the Nag Missile System (NAMIS-Tr), a tracked anti-tank platform developed by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory. The system, equipped with fire-and-forget missiles, enhances mechanised infantry’s firepower and operational readiness.
Additionally, around 5,000 modern light vehicles, designed for varied terrains with an 800 kg payload capacity, will be supplied to improve mobility. Signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi, the contracts promote defence indigenisation and employment in the MSME sector, aligning with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
