Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States on February 12 and February 13 at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, officials said on Thursday, with talks set to focus on trade, investment, defence, and strategic ties. While sharing details Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Modi would be among the first world leaders to visit Washington since Trump began his second term, underlining the importance of the India-U.S. partnership. Modi will meet Trump for bilateral talks in restricted and delegation-level formats. He will also interact with U.S. business leaders and members of the Indian diaspora, Misri added.
The visit follows high-level engagements between the two countries, including a meeting between India’s foreign minister and the U.S. Secretary of State during Trump’s inauguration. Defence and security officials from both sides have also held recent talks. India and the U.S. share strong strategic ties, with cooperation spanning trade, technology, counterterrorism, and Indo-Pacific security. The visit is expected to provide further momentum to the partnership, with a joint statement likely at its conclusion, Misri said.
