Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, in a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a “heinous” act and urging that those responsible be swiftly brought to justice. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the call on Monday, noting that Putin expressed “deepest condolences” for the loss of innocent lives and extended Russia’s “full support” to India in combating terrorism.
“Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The conversation also touched on bilateral ties, with Modi extending greetings to Putin on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day — a key event in Russia’s wartime remembrance — and inviting him to the Annual Summit scheduled in India later this year.
